In this week’s episode, Michael sits down with TVCC Head Football Coach Sherard Poteete to break down last week's heartbreaking loss to Tyler and preview the Cardinals' upcoming game against Cisco.
Bouncing Back After Tyler
Coach Poteete talks about the difficult overtime loss to Tyler Junior College, reflecting on how TVCC dominated nearly every aspect of the game, from time of possession to rushing yards, but failed to finish drives. The defense was stellar, only allowing two big plays, but the offense missed several opportunities to score. He emphasizes the importance of learning from the loss.
Poteete commended his defense, highlighting the performance of NJCAA Defensive Player of the Week, Tavion Atkinson, who recorded four sacks and 12 tackles. "The reason that he's successful on Saturdays is because he practices every day just like that," said Poteete.
Looking Ahead to Cisco
As TVCC prepares to hit the road for Cisco, Coach Poteete stresses the importance of maintaining focus and energy on a long travel day. He describes the challenge of playing at Cisco, where the team will need to create its own momentum. "We’ve got to bring our own atmosphere this week," he said.
Poteete praises Cisco's defense, noting the improvements under their new head coach. "Their defense played really hard," Poteete said, acknowledging the physicality they’ll face. Though Cisco’s offense faced challenges in their opener, Poteete is aware of their ability to mix the run and pass, with a focus on capitalizing on big plays when given the opportunity.
