In this episode, Michael talks with Coach Poteete about the Cardinals' upcoming homecoming game against New Mexico Military Institute.

Loss to Kilgore

Following a tough home loss to Kilgore College, the TVCC Cardinals (3-4, 1-4) are looking to bounce back this week in their homecoming game against the New Mexico Military Institute Broncos (3-4, 2-3). Coach Poteete remains upbeat about his team, emphasizing the strong performance of the Cardinals' defense.

"Our defense did play well enough for us to win," Coach Poteete said. "As you kind of go back and look at it, and I think we talked about it briefly after the game, their first 10 points were off the turnovers and then a kickoff return. So 17 of the 26 points they scored were not given up by the defense."

Next Up: NMMI

Coach Poteete said NMMI has been in a lot of close games and their defense has played well this year. He said the Broncos have been able to limit opponent scoring in conference play.

"They haven't scored a lot of points, but they're not giving up a lot and they control their own fate," said Coach Poteete. "If they can win the remainder of their games, then they're in the playoffs."

Coach Poteete described NMMI's offense as up-tempo, often using the same personnel grouping and incorporating the tight end heavily. On defense, he said they use a variety of fronts and employ stunts and shifts to confuse the offensive line.

To combat that defense, the Cardinals are going to have to avoid long yardage situations and stay ahead of the chains, Coach Poteete said. They don't want to get into obvious passing situations against NMMI.

One thing the Cardinals know for sure is to expect a tough challenge from the Broncos, who will be playing with a playoff spot on the line.

"They're going to come in and give us their best effort," Coach Poteete said.
