TVCC gets ready to host NEO

This interview was recorded Wednesday, Sept. 9, at the TVCC Field House.

After rolling to an easy 70-7 win over ASA Miami last week, things promise to get tougher for TVCC this week. The Cardinals will be starting SWJCFC play by welcoming Northeast Oklahoma A&M into Bruce Field. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m.

"It was a good opener for us, now it's turn the page and on to the next one," said Coach Sherard Poteete.

This will be NEO's first game of the year, meaning there is some uncertainty about the Golden Norsemen.

"The advantage for them is we don't know what they are going to do," said Coach Poteete.

One thing for sure, however, is that the Cardinals need to prepare for a quality defense. The Golden Norsemen are returning the conference Defensive Player of the Year, defensive lineman Damien Lowry, and NEO Head Coach Zach Crissup is their former Defensive Coordinator.

"They do a good job every year," said Coach Poteete. "They're going to have some really good ballplayers upfront."

The play of the Cardinals' young offensive line is going to be a key factor Saturday.

"They got some game experience this past week so they're up for the challenge," Coach Poteete said.

The Cardinal offense definitely showed it had some firepower last week, with six different receivers catching multiple passes.

"We have some guys we feel good about," Coach Poteete said. He specifically mentioned Korey King, Jaquan Tillis, Cam Camper, and Kordell David.

Listen to the podcast to hear Coach Poteete talk about more players and to get ready for the SWJCFC opener.

"All of our dreams, goals, all those preseason things are sitting right there in front of us right now," he said. "It's going to come down to Saturday."

"When you get into the Southwest Junior College Football Conference anybody can beat anybody each week, so you better be ready to play."
