It was a rainy morning as Sheriff Botie Hillhouse and I recorded this podcast. That led to a discussion on how the weather impacts the Sheriff's Office. Hillhouse explained that the rain makes things more dangerous for deputies. (12:45)

One surprise, was learning that storms also have a tendency to trigger alarms and phantom 911 calls.

On the crime front, the Sheriff's Office has been busy on the methamphetamine front. In the past two weeks, deputies have made arrests that included taking about 200 grams of meth off the street. (2:45)

"That's a really big dent in the methamphetamine world here in Henderson County," Hillhouse said.

Hillhouse said 200 grams would break down to 1,600 individual uses with a value of about $40,000.

The Sheriff and I also discussed early voting. The Sheriff's Office has deputies in each of the early voting locations for the first time this year. (16:35)

Hillhouse said voting in the county has been relatively calm, particularly considering the huge turnout. The Sheriff's Office will also have extra deputies on duty for Tuesday's voting.
