The wolfdog saga continues.
For the past three weeks, Henderson County officials have been working to find homes for about 50 wolf hybrids that were left abandoned when their owner died.
In our weekly interview today, Sheriff Botie Hillhouse and I talked about where the rescue currently stands, including the work of the Villalobos Rescue Center from the Animal Planet show “Pit Bulls & Parolees.”
“They are out there maintaining the property,” said Hillhouse. “They are trying to fix all the fences, fix all the enclosures, trying to keep the dogs captured on the property.”
Tia Torres posted the following on the Villalobos Rescue Center Facebook page Tuesday:
Our group is still currently "boots on the ground" at the Athens, TX wolfdog rescue location. There are still approx. 40 more dogs to catch. Unfortunately several of them are still running loose along the road and onto people's properties and are getting shot. In survival mode, they are going after livestock. It's what dogs do when they are left to fend for themselves.
Add to all of this, we have now discovered a litter of newborn puppies hidden in the brush and "Papa Wolfdog" is not letting anyone near them but they need to be taken out for their own safety and health.
It is a dire situation as the heat and conditions are currently not good. We are scrambling to improve what we can and as quickly as we can but it is going to take more than just a "few days".
We DESPERATELY need to raise money for so many things such as new fencing and oh yeah....TO BUY THE PROPERTY so that we have more time to catch the regular dogs and also allow some of the wolfdogs to remain there as we have yet to find placement for the majority of them.
How appropriate that I came up with this design back when we rescued Bruno's Pack, two years ago. This merging of me and Bruno (Rest In Peace), embodies the spirit of the original "dog" coming together and becoming a part of our human lives.
ALLLLLLLLL proceeds from the purchase of this design will go towards the Athens, TX wolfdogs. Please help us to help them.
