Sheriff Podcast: County gets communications grant

(Courtesy photo: Sheriff Botie Hillhouse.)

County Sheriff Botie Hillhouse and I recorded this podcast in the Henderson County Justice Center on Wednesday, Oct. 21.

Here are the 3 MAIN THINGS I learned from this interview.

--  24 HOUR MEDICAL: For the first time, there is 24 hour medical coverage in the jail. This program will cost the county some extra money up front, but is expected to save money in the long run. (3:21)

-- COMMUNICATIONS GRANT:  This week, Henderson County learned it received a $500,000 grant for a fifth communications tower. The new communications system is currently on pace to be activated in December. (9:47)

-- PROJECT LIFESAVER: Hillhouse said the Sheriff’s Office is receiving applications for Project Lifesaver, which is a program designed to protect, and when necessary, quickly locate individuals with cognitive disorders who are prone to the life threatening behavior of wandering. To learn more, contact the Alzheimer’s Coalition of Henderson County at 903-904-5070.  (16:34)

Other topics include: Weekly stats, drug busts, and LSD.
