With a return to school on the horizon, Trinity Valley Community College on Monday released COVID guidelines ahead of the fall semester, including the implementation of health protocols suggested by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
Those guidelines include conducting most activities in a virtual format.
“Our primary motivation and our primary focus has been safety,” said TVCC President Dr. Jerry King. “The safety of our students, our faculty, our staff, and everyone that is involved with the college.”
Most students will attend class virtually this semester, either through traditional online classes or through remote classes. While both of these are computer-based learning, the remote classes offer more structure for students.
Remote students will attend regularly scheduled classes in an online environment, like a Zoom room, where faculty will meet with the students.
“We feel like a lot of our students need structure,” King said. “Online classes are great, but you also have to have a lot of discipline.”
There will be some face-to-face classes for CTE subjects like welding, cosmetology, automotive technology, drafting, health science and other courses that may not be conducive to remote learning.
“We’re going to be offering the best possible education opportunities for our students in the fall semester,” King said. “We’ve got the best faculty and the best staff that you could possibly have at a community college, and they’re willing to work and do the things that need to be done to make sure that our students are taken care of and that they learn what they need to learn to move on.”
