The Athens Hornets are coming off their open week with a 4-2 record. They return to action Friday night when they hit the road to take on the 4-3 Lindale Eagles.

Lindale was the state runners up last season and offer a difficult challenge for the Hornets.

Coach Zac Harrell said the Eagles are a spread offense but will line up in multiple formations. Their key player is quarterback Sam Peterson, who is a returner from last year.

"He is playing exceptionally well," Coach Harrell said. "They are running him about 13 times a game during district and relying on him with his feet and his arm."

Defensively, Lindale is a base 4-2 with its strength in the defensive line.

"Their defensive line has been able to put pressure on quarterbacks," Coach Harrell said. "You look at their district games, that's been the difference."

KEYS TO THE GAME

The Hornets always have a Word of the Week, and for Lindale, it is "Sense of Purpose."

"We have to have a great sense of purpose because when you play the teams we're playing it's going to be decided by three or four plays, and how you prepare is going to determine that," said Coach Harrell.

Other Keys include:

-- Play sound defense: don't give up any easy scores.

-- Eliminate self-inflicted wounds on offense.

-- Get after the quarterback.

-- Win the turnover battle.

-- Have a big return in the special teams.
