The Athens Hornets (2-0) will be on the road again this week, traveling to Fairfield to take on the Eagles Friday night.
This Hornets face a difficult challenge this week with Fairfield beating Athens the past four games.
The Breakdown (Quotes from Coach Harrell)
-- Review of last week against Waxahachie Life. (:59)
The Hornets beat Waxahachie Life on the road last week, 42-20. Athens took advantage of takeaways in the first half and a dominant ground attack in the second half.
“Overall it was a great, complete game.”
-- Big play potential. (6:17)
The Hornet offense has shown the ability to break big plays over the first two games of the season.
“We were able to exploit some things with formations that kind of hurt them. You’ve got to give Coach Walker credit on that.”
-- Overview of the Fairfield Eagles. (9:17)
Many of Fairfield’s main players last year have graduated, so the Eagles are young. However, Coach John Bachtel has been there for many years and has a good program in place.
“(Coach Bachtel) does a great job there and is a classy, great guy and they run a great program. It is really good when you get to play programs like that, that you know are first class and they do everything right.”
-- Fairfield offense. (11:00)
Fairfield runs a spread offense. So far this season they have been 70-30 run-pass.
“They present a good challenge and we’ve got to stop the run, but they're also not afraid to take shots in the passing game.”
-- Fairfield defense. (18:00)
The Eagles will play press man on the outside and bring 10 players near the line of scrimmage with one safety deep.
“We hope to be able to take advantage of that and make some big plays.”
-- Hornets’ ability to spread the ball around. (20:35)
Athens has had multiple players show the ability to make big plays on offense. This helps the Hornets in numerous ways.
“You’ve really got to give credit to the kids, because they’ve done a great job of not being selfish and buying into that philosophy.”
-- Tickets. (24:50)
There are 500 tickets on sale for $5 each. Tickets will ONLY be available at the Athletic Office through Thursday. There will be no tickets on sale at the age.
