In this week's County Podcast, County Judge Wade McKinney and I started things off by discussing two important vacant positions in County Government.
-- PCT. 1 CONSTABLE (:28): The passing of Kay Langford has caused an opening for the Pct. 1 Constable's position. Judge McKinney describes the process for filling the vacancy.
-- ELECTIONS ADMINISTRATOR (5:52): Denise Hernandez is stepping down as the Elections Administrator after 16 years. Judge McKinney talks about how important she has been for the county and how hard it will be to replace her, including the curious hierarchy over the Elections Office.
-- KAUFMAN COUNTY BORDER (17:13): I asked Judge McKinney to give us an update on the border dispute between Henderson and Kaufman counties. In December, Kaufman County Commissioners Court approved a proclamation declaring that the border between the two counties is incorrect and "fixing" the issue. Henderson County has disagreed ... vehemently.
-- COVID UPDATE (23:09): We have had good news on the COVID-19 front recently, with hospitalization numbers tumbling. The up-to-date numbers during the podcast showed the county had seen four consecutive days under the 15 percent hospitalization rate, and by Wednesday evening that had gone to five consecutive days. The news regarding the availability of vaccines was not as good, unfortunately.
