Legacy Shores (:32)

Henderson County Commissioners this week approved the final plat for a housing development called Legacy Shores planned for the Lake Palestine area. The development encompasses 274 acres and about 100 homes.

"It is really amazing," said Judge Wade McKinney, "what the demand for property in Henderson County is bringing us in terms of growth these days."

The judge said the real estate market has been so active in the county that last July there was a week that saw 300 property transactions go through the appraisal district.

The Legacy Shores development is the first large development to begin under new rules approved by the county in 2018.

"What makes this one so interesting," said Judge McKinney, "is it uses a construction bond to guarantee the project will be completed."

The bond is for $2.7 million.

Opioid Lawsuit (16:02)

Henderson County is a part of the large civil lawsuit against opioid manufacturers and marketers.

"It is very similar to the tobacco lawsuit of the 90s," Judge McKinney said.

This week, Commissioners Court reviewed a possible settlement that Judge McKinney called "a starting point."

This was an important milestone in the lawsuit because it marks the beginning of a new stage in the litigation process.

COVID-19 Update (23:03)

The hospitalizations in the Trauma Service Area (TSA-G) that includes Henderson County was up to 97 Tuesday. While that is still much lower than our high point in January, it is still higher than it was a week ago.

Judge McKinney discusses the availability of vaccines in the county and the need for everyone to get vaccinated.
