Henderson County's birthday is next week!

Tuesday, April 27, will be Henderson County 175th Anniversary. Judge McKinney and I spoke about the county's history and the courthouse during this week's podcast. (:45)

Commissioners will hear a resolution during Commissioners Court next week and the Judge said he expects to have some festivities celebrating the milestone during this year's Fiddlers Reunion in May.

The proclamation reads, in part, "On April 27, 1846 the Texas Legislature formed Henderson County from parts of Nacogdoches and Houston Counties. This newly formed County was named in honor of James Pickney Henderson, the first Governor of the State of Texas with the first town of Buffalo being laid out in 1847 which served as the County seat."

McKinney said, "We hope to bring great attention to this historic moment and to take pride in where we've been and looking forward to the future."

We discuss the various county seats, how Athens eventually became the county seat, and our multiple courthouses.

COVID Vaccination Clinic

Judge McKinney reminded everyone of the walk-in COVID-19 vaccination clinic scheduled for Friday, April 23. (19:10)

The clinic is being run by the Texas Division of Emergency Management and the Texas Military Department and will use the Moderna vaccine.

The clinics will be held Friday, April 23, and Friday, April 30. The clinics will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will be held at the Senior Citizens Building at the Henderson County Regional Fair Park Complex.

Those 65 years and over will be prioritized, but anyone 18 and over can come to the clinic. Up to 500 vaccinations will be available.

This is a walk in clinic with no appointment needed.
