In this week’s episode, Michael talks with TVCC Head Football Coach Sherard Poteete about the team’s close loss to Cisco and looks ahead to the upcoming game against Air Force Prep at Bruce Field.

Bouncing Back After Cisco

Coach Poteete discussed the frustration of losing another game that the Cardinals felt they had control over. Despite leading at times and having a chance to win at the end, penalties and missed opportunities continued to hurt the Cards. The focus moving forward is on getting back to basics and taking it one day at a time. The Cardinals know they are capable of winning, and Poteete emphasizes the importance of focusing on the immediate task, without looking too far ahead in the season.

Penalties were again a major issue in the game against Cisco, with TVCC being flagged 18 times compared to Cisco’s six. The Cardinals have to correct these mistakes and be more disciplined.

Facing Air Force Prep

The Cardinals face a unique challenge this week as they prepare to play Air Force Prep, a team that runs the triple-option offense. It is an offense the Cards rarely see and requires a different style of defense. Preparation was difficult, however, because of the weather and the short week.

Air Force Prep is known for being disciplined and well-coached, despite not having the size of a typical college football team. The Cardinals hope to spread out the Air Force defense and find mismatches.

Another Award

WR Jemyri Davis was named the NJCAA Offensive Player of the Week honors for his performance against Cisco. Davis had a huge game, finishing with eight catches for 244 yards and three touchdowns.

This Week

The Cardinals (1-2) are back at home this week for a Friday night game against Air Force Prep at Bruce Field. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
