Now things get real for the Cardinals.
TVCC will open SWJCFC play this Saturday night in Tyler when they take on the Apaches. The Cardinals are 1-1 heading into the match up after a loss to Snow in the opener and a win over Southern University two weeks ago.
Tyler is also 1-1 after a win over Resolution Prep and a loss to Kilgore.
The Cardinals are coming off of an early open date last week, but Coach Sherard Poteete said his guys are ready to play.
"The spirits have been high and the enthusiasm is up," he said. "They're ready to go play somebody else."
To those who have been around for a while, Tyler will look different. They have a new head coach and new coordinators.
"They've got some really good players on that football team," Coach Poteete said. "Some talented guys and some guys that can fly around."
The good news for the Cardinals is that the new players are settling in and getting better.
"Those young guys, they can't be young anymore," Coach Poteete said.
ESPN+ will be in town Saturday as the Cards and Apaches start conference play. You can be, too. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium in Tyler.
