The (2-1, 1-0) TVCC Cardinals will be on the road for the third straight game as they travel to Cisco Saturday night to take on the (2-1, 0-1) Cisco College Wranglers.
The Cardinals are coming off a gritty win against Tyler Junior College last week, 28-27, that saw TVCC come back from being down two scores in the fourth quarter.
“They stuck together and that’s why we were able to pull the win out late,” said Coach Sherard Poteete. “They never quit on each other.”
In that game, the Cardinals used a lot of two tight end sets and ran the ball very well.
“We showed our dominance early on in the run game. We just have to be able to sustain it,” Coach Poteete said.
The Cisco Wranglers are also coming off a win last week. The Wranglers beat Rezolution Prep, 48-8.
The Wranglers will employ an offense similar to what the military academies run, the triple-option flexbone. Wranglers’ Head Coach John O’Mera is in his first year at Cisco but has typically run the triple-option.
“That’s just not something you see week in and week out,” said Coach Poteete.
The Wrangler defense also has a new coordinator and is a little bit of an unknown, but has shown a propensity to blitz and play zone behind it while mixing in man coverages.
“They’re going to play hard,” said Coach Poteete.
One thing that isn’t unknown is that every game in the SWJCFC is a battle and Saturday night promises to be more of the same.
“As I told the guys yesterday, we’re not going on a vacation. We’re not going on a sightseeing tour. We’re going out there on a business trip,” said Coach Poteete.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Cisco.
