Sheriff: Two in jail for aggravated sexual assault

PRCA Rodeo (1:23)

Henderson County Sheriff Botie Hillhouse was still excited about the turnout for last weekend's Henderson County First Responders PRCA Rodeo. Big crowds were on hand both Monday and Tuesday for the event.

"It turned out amazingly good," he said. "We're very, very blessed. Everybody is extremely excited and we're excited about getting started for the 2022 rodeo."

Sheriff Hillhouse thanked all of the sponsors, the rodeo committee, stock contractors, Bullfighters Only, as well as all of the peace officers and firefighters who came out to work the event.

"Everybody came together," he said.

Sexual Assault Case (6:43)

Sheriff Hillhouse described a recent case that has two men in Henderson County Jail on a $1 million bond for aggravated sexual assault.

The two men are suspected of looking up the victim and not allowing her to leave while they beat her and assaulted her.

This case comes during Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month and is a reminder of the type of crimes that happen in Henderson County.

"Unfortunately, it happens a lot," Sheriff Hillhouse said. "I know people don't realize, but I have three investigators and that's all they do here at the Sheriff's Office is work crimes against children and sexual assault."

Communications System (10:32)

Henderson County's new communications system keeps moving forward and Sheriff Hillhouse described how well things are going during the testing phase. He said during one test, a person in a building in Athens and someone between Kaufman and Crandall were able to communicate on portable radios. That's something that could never happen with the old system.

"It is going to be everything thing we thought it would be and more," Sheriff Hillhouse said.

Training is under way and the system is expected to come on line soon.
