What's Happening for Tuesday, Sept. 21
Here are some things I've seen around the community.

BURN BAN
Henderson County is under a 14-day burn ban as of Tuesday.
Henderson County Fire Marshal Shane Renberg told Commissioners Court the county’s average Keetch-Byram Drought Index score is 601. A burn ban is recommended when the KBDI score is above 575.
"I would suggest that we put a burn ban in because we are over that threshold," he told commissioners, "and because we're not going to see any significant rain in the next 10 days."
Ignoring the burn ban is a Class C misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of up to $500.

COVID-19 UPDATE
COVID-19 hospitalizations for our region are coming down. As of Monday, there were 740 COVID-19 patients hospitalized. Last Monday, there were close to 800 hospitalized.
That's the good news.
The bad news is that 73 people in Henderson County have died of COVID-19 since Aug. 1. That date is significant because it is when medical professionals starting seeing the Delta variant in the county.
To put that number into context, 26 percent of the people in Henderson County who died of COVID-19 died in the past seven weeks.
There are 240 people in the region on ventilators, nearly the same as at the beginning of September.
