United Way event benefits local nonprofits
Successful Wine & Dine held at the Cain Center

Henderson County United Way hosted its Wine & Dine fundraising event at the Cain Center Friday night. The event included a gourmet four-course meal paired with sommelier wine selections, a silent auction, and a wine pull.
Money raised by the HC United Way goes to 18 local nonprofit organizations.
"This is our way of raising funds to distribute to those organizations so they can do the things that need to be done in our community," said HC United Way Executive Director Kilena Underwood.
Underwood said that .99 cents of every dollar raised by the local United Way stay in Henderson County.
"That's so important because then we can use those funds in a united capacity to help people solve problems and change people's lives," she said.
The HC Board of Directors includes Tony Kalawe, Jamie Running, Mary Valentin, Kim Wilson, Fr. Matthew Frick, Dan LaPlant, Sheila Davis, Dr. Brannon Barnes, Jana Normandin, Sarah Watkins, and Jeannie Klepper.
"I have a great board," said Underwood. "Our board is all the influencers and community leaders."
Tony Kalawe, who has been the board president for more than 11 years, is stepping down in 2022 and Jamie Running will be the new president with Fr. Matthew Frick as vice president.
