Some places like to talk about success on both the playing fields/courts and the classroom. At Trinity Valley Community College, it is a reality.
Thirty-five female athletes at the college have been named to the NJCAA All-Academic Team for the 2023-24 academic year.
The Cardinal softball team led the way with 12 honorees, including seven first-team selections. The Cardinals posted a 3.81 GPA and were named NJCAA DI Academic Softball Team of the Year for a second straight year, sharing the honor this year with Daytona State College.
“The success of our student-athletes in the classroom is something for which we take a lot of pride,” said TVCC athletic director Eddie Kite. “Our coaches do a great job stressing the importance of taking care of business in the classroom and our athletes make it happen.
“The time that is required to be successful, both as an athlete and student, is quite demanding. The recognition they have received is very deserving.”
In all, 13 Cardinal athletes were named first team, which requires a 4.0 GPA.
Six Cardinal volleyball players were named to the first team. The Cardinals had a 3.84 GPA. They finished in the No. 3 position.
The Lady Cardinal basketball team, who had a 13th-best 3.52 GPA, had five players honored.
TVCC topped all Region XIV teams in GPA in softball, volleyball and women’s basketball.
Student-athletes are eligible to earn academic honors by achieving an overall GPA of 3.60 or higher for the 2023-24 academic year. The criteria for the three All-Academic teams are listed below:
