Trinity Valley Community College is making sure students know they're "Not Alone."
The college is currently hosting an exhibit titled "Not Alone: Working Together in the Fight Against Human Trafficking," which focuses on raising awareness about human trafficking and helping the community to recognize and respond to its dangers. This traveling exhibit, created by the Bullock Texas State History Museum, encourages visitors to become advocates, emphasizing that everyone has a role to play in addressing human trafficking and supporting those affected.
The exhibit opened with a reception on Sunday. At the event, TVCC President Dr. Jason Morrison highlighted the value of partnering with the museum, saying, "The more partnerships we have with statewide entities, the better. It's part of education. The more we can share resources with other entities like museums, universities, and agencies, the more information we can get in the hands of our students."
These partnerships, like the one with the Bullock Texas State History Museum, bring important topics like human trafficking into focus.
The exhibit is presented in both English and Spanish, and each section includes a QR code that allows visitors to view original videos featuring survivors and advocates, providing personal insights and firsthand experiences that deepen understanding.
Though the exhibit contains no graphic content, it does include definitions of sex trafficking and references to emotional, physical, and sexual abuse, which may be triggering for some visitors. Content warnings are provided to ensure all visitors can navigate the exhibit comfortably.
"Our job is to educate students, as they mature, to become critical thinkers," said Dr. Morrison. "We hope that at this institution we're preparing young people to handle challenges, both for themselves and for others around them."
Not Alone will be available Oct. 6 through Nov. 16 on the first floor of the Learning Resource Center on the TVCC – Athens Campus. The exhibit is open for viewing during business hours, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Community members are encouraged to visit, engage with the content.
