TVCC blows away Silver Storm, 70-7
Coach Sherard Poteete's search for a more competitive non-conference game took him to Florida, but after Saturday he's going to have to go farther.
The TVCC Cardinals raced out to a 49-0 halftime lead against the ASA Miami Silver Storm on their way to a 70-7 win in their season opener at Bruce Field.
In addition to six rushing and two passing touchdowns, the Cardinals scored on two fumble returns, including on the final play before halftime.
TVCC erased any thoughts Miami had about being competitive by scoring three touchdowns in the final minute of the second quarter.
First, Cordrick Dunn scored with :50 seconds left on a 5-yard run to cap off a seven-play, 50-yard drive.
Next, after the defense forced a punt, TVCC had the ball on their own 48 with :17 seconds left. QB Jordan Davis lateralled to Korey King who threw deep to Kordell David for a 52-yard TD.
Miami then fumbled on the ensuing kickoff. The ball was scooped up on the 14 by Julian Johnson who scored as time expired in the half.
The opposition promises to be tougher next week as the Cardinals open their Southwest Junior College Football Conference (SWJCFC) schedule by hosting the Northeastern Oklahoma A&M Golden Norsemen. The game is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday.
