Tickets available for Athens ISD Hall of Fame Induction Dinner
Athens ISD will host the inaugural induction dinner of the Athens ISD Athletic Hall of Fame 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, at the Athens Country Club.
AISD will be honoring:
- Johnnie Henderson Byrd, 1946, who played basketball at Prairie View A&M and will be representing Fisher High School;
- Duke Carlisle, 1960, the starting quarterback on UT's first National Championship football team, is in the UT Hall of Fame and the Cotton Bowl Hall of Fame;
- Tommy Bowman, 1966, who as a basketball player became Baylor's first black scholarship student-athlete, is in the Baylor Hall of Fame and the Southwest Conference Hall of Fame;
- The 1956 & 1974 State Champion Golf Teams, that consisted of (1956) Frank Duphorne, John and Billy Lively, and Gene Robinson, and (1974) Kip Estep, Steve Grant, and Billy, Mike and Phillip Pierot;
- Prissy Corley, AHS teacher and coach from 1975-1985, who put up an impressive winning record coaching the girls varsity basketball team.
