Athens Christmas Celebration Still Scheduled
Yes, the Athens Christmas Parade is still on and there's still time to sign up a float. Plus there's going to be the Holiday on the Square and the Yuletide Market this weekend.
The parade is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5. There is no entry fee for floats this year and parade packets are now available at City Hall, Development Services Center, City of Athens Facebook Event Page and on the City’s website at www.athenstx.gov. For additional information about the Christmas Parade, please contact Tourism and Cultural Resources Department at either 903-675-8039 or e-mail kbirk@athenstx.gov.
Those attending the parade are required to social distance in family groups and are required to wear masks when social distancing isn't possible. The CDC advises that those 65 and older, or those with underlying medical conditions such as heart disease or diabetes increase a person's risk for severe COVID-19 illness. Exposure to COVID-19 is a higher in any public location where people are present and guests should evaluate their own risk before attending the parade.
The parade will be streamed live on the City of Athens Facebook page.
