Summer break for school-aged students is just around the corner.
That means the need for more groceries for some families.
During the school year, more than half of the county's students get free breakfast and lunch, which is a big help, but when school lets out, that support disappears.
That’s why the Henderson County HELP Center, in partnership with TXU Energy, is putting together more than 200 backpacks filled with healthy snacks to distribute at the Summertime Bash on Friday, June 13, at The Legacy Center in Athens.
The goal is to provide enough for about three weeks' worth of snacks for kids who may not have regular meals at home during the summer.
Leslie Saunders said, “We want our kids to thrive during the summer. That starts with making sure they don’t have to worry about where their next snack or lunch is coming from.”
But organizers could use some help. If you’d like to help sponsor a backpack or donate snacks, call 903-675-4357 and ask for Amanda.
Every bit helps. Whether it's one box of granola bars or a full sponsorship, your support can make summer a little easier for a local family.
Just food for thought.
