Stage Notes Dances Into Big Night

Stage Notes presented "Dancing for the Stars" Saturday night, and Athens turned it into a celebration.
This was the first big fundraiser for Stage Notes Academy of Performing Arts, and from the opening number to the final applause, it felt like something more than a show.
Yes, all the dancers brought their personalities to the stage, but what stood out the most was the energy in the room. People were smiling, clapping, cheering from their seats. This wasn’t just a fundraiser. This was more like a family reunion.
I talked with a few board members before the show, and their excitement about the future of Stage Notes matched what I felt in the room. I’ve seen several shows at Stage Notes over the past few years, and I love the place. The performances have always been strong, and the experience continues to improve every time I visit the theater.
I was honored to be one of the judges, along with Berta Winn and TVCC Cardettes Coach Emma Cox. We watched the whole night unfold from the control room. Picking winners wasn’t easy, but being part of the event was a blast.
Jason Morrison and Maria Ogburn received the top award for getting the most votes from the public.
The Judges’ Choice award went to Lisa Borjon and Councilman Cody Craig, and the Lumi Award, which honored the team that best connected with the audience, went to Stephanie Gade and Daniel Holmes.
But every team brought something to the stage to make the night special. In addition to the award-winners, the full list of dancers also included:
Jennifer Browning and Zachary Smith
Chad Allen and Karen Holmes
Sherard Poteete and Megan Brewer
Seth Davidson and Sariah Holmes
Kim Pochobradsky and Chandler Hinojoza
If you’ve never been to a Stage Notes performance, now is a good time to change that. They’re doing something important over on Prairieville Street. And they’re just getting started.
