Region no longer a 'high hospitalization area'
Henderson County is no longer in a COVID-19 High Hospitalization Area.
Friday, the Trauma Service Area (TSA) that includes Henderson County was below the 15 percent hospitalization rate set by Gov. Abbott for the seventh consecutive day, removing the designation. As of Sunday, the TSA was down to 372 COVID patients and an 11.71 hospitalization rate. (*These numbers are for the region, not just Henderson County. See explanation below.)
County Judge Wade McKinney received a letter from the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) Friday confirming the change. Now businesses in the region can go back to the expanded opening levels, including 75 percent capacity for some businesses.
“Though we are relieved, we must continue to be vigilant,” McKinney said Monday morning
The TSA had been designated a high hospitalization area since Dec. 21.

*Texas separates the state into 22 regions called Trauma Service Areas, or TSAs, for hospital data. Henderson County's region is designated TSA-G and includes Tyler/Longview. TSA-G includes about 960,000 people. The 15 percent is important because it is the level that defines "high hospitalizations" in any TSA.
