The Cardinals struggled to move the ball Saturday afternoon and paid the price, falling to Kilgore, 26-13.
The loss drops the Cardinals to 1-4 in SWJCFC play while Kilgore improves to 3-1.
The Cardinal offense struck first Saturday when Taj Wilson scored less than five minutes into the game on a 7-yard run. The touchdown was set up by a beautiful one-handed grab by Jemyri Davis on a 45-yard bomb by Diego Tello.
Unfortunately, those two plays accounted for nearly a third of all the yards TVCC would gain during the game.
Tello finished the day completing 11-of-25 for 93 yards, an interception, and two fumbles.
The Cardinals leading rusher was Jamary Williams who rushed for 34 yards on seven carries, including a 17-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
Kilgore's offense didn't do much better against the Cardinals, but the Rangers were able to take advantage of great field position to put up points. Kilgore was also helped by a 98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Jermaine Taylor.
The Cardinals are scheduled to play New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI) at 1 p.m. next Saturday for TVCC's Homecoming and Family Day.
