The women’s soccer program at Trinity Valley Community College is now being led by a proven winner and two-time NJCAA champion coach.
The college today announced the hiring of Adam Sanchez to lead the program as it begins its fifth season. Sanchez recently completed his 10th season at Iowa Western Community College, where he won national titles in two of the last three seasons.
“It goes without saying we are getting high-quality coach and person to lead our women’s soccer program,” said TVCC athletic director Eddie Kite. “We feel like we turned the corner with our program this past season. To get someone of his caliber will enable us to take it to an even higher level.”
In his Iowa Western tenure, Sanchez compiled a record of 154-26-11, going 67-3 in conference play. He has not lost a match in each of the last two seasons, going 18-0 in 2023 and 16-0-4 this past season. Iowa Western is currently amid a 56-game unbeaten streak.
With Sanchez at the helm, Iowa Western finished in the NJCAA top 10 every year, including a top-5 finish in nine seasons.
Sanchez led Iowa Western to back-to-back national titles in 2022 and 2023 and this past season was eliminated in the national semifinals with a 2-2 tie with Dayton State, which went on to win the championship.
He captured eight straight Region XI Tournament championships and won seven of the last eight district titles. More than 13 players were named NJCAA All-Americans under Sanchez at Iowa Western, and more than 60 athletes achieved NJCAA All-Academic status, and in all nine years his teams were named as one of the academic teams of the year.
Before going to Iowa Western, Sanchez served as the head coach at the College of Southern Maryland. While at CSM, Sanchez became the winningest coach in program history as well as guiding the school to its first post-season championships in the program's 18-year history.
In 2013, the Hawks earned their first trip to the NJCAA National Tournament by winning the 2013 District K Championship dramatically, scoring the golden goal with less than a minute to play in double overtime. The program reached its third consecutive Region XX Championship Match in 2014 narrowly losing 2-1 in the final. Sanchez earned Maryland Junior College Conference Coach of the Year Honors in 2012 and 2013 and was also named NSCAA North Region Coach of the Year, becoming a finalist for NSCAA National Coach of the Year in 2013.
In addition to his coaching duties at CSM, Sanchez was also the Director of Coaching for the Waldorf Soccer Club (2014-2015) in which he oversaw player development for all competitive and recreational youth teams. He also developed the youth academy curriculum for ages 5-12.
Sanchez started his coaching career with Utah County Strikers Soccer Club, currently Utah FC (2002-2008) in Provo, UT. He served as head coach for various age groups both boys and girls. While with the club, he also served as referee assignor and led goalkeeper training sessions. Sanchez also coached the boys and girls soccer programs at Timpview High School, helping earn multiple regional titles and state tournament appearances.
He graduated from Utah Valley University with a B.A. in Spanish. He currently holds his USSF National B License, NSCAA Director of Coaching License, and NSCAA Level III Goalkeeping Diploma. Adam and his wife Becky have four children.
Sanchez, who will be the Cardinals’ third coach in program history, inherits a team coming of its best-ever season. The Cardinals went 11-4 and advanced to the semifinals of the Region XIV Tournament.
