NAMI Greater Athens hosted a "Breaking the Silence" luncheon Friday afternoon at First United Methodist Church Athens.
NAMI -- the National Alliance on Mental Illness -- works to educate, support, advocate, listen and lead to improve the lives of people with mental illness and their loved ones.

The event featured author Michelle Staubach Grimes as the main speaker as well as mental health professionals from NAMI and the Andrew's Center.
Mrs. Grimes said her goal is to "erase the stigma surrounding mental illness.”
Mrs. Grimes is the daughter of Dallas Cowboy's legend Roger Staubach and two footballs autographed by him was auctioned off at the event.
The luncheon was emceed by County Judge Wade McKinney.
Ginger Morton has been the driving force behind the local NAMI affiliate.
"It is so important that we have this," she said Friday afternoon. "There are so many people in this community that are hurting. They are hurting deeply and they don't know what to do or where to go and NAMI has a lot of experts and we have information we can give you and support groups. All you have to do is call us."
