It's that time of year for the Malakoff Tigers.
The No. 10-ranked Tigers will begin their annual playoff run this Friday against Maypearl at Midway Panther Stadium in Hewitt, just outside of Waco. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
The Tigers enter the playoffs with a 7-3 record and as champions of District 8-3A. They are on a seven-game winning streak. Maypearl finished fourth in District 7-3A with a 5-4 record.
In the Maypearl Panthers, the Tigers will face a familiar opponent. The Tigers beat the Panthers in the first round of last year's playoffs, 83-7.
Maypearl runs similar schemes as the Tigers on offense and has an attacking defense, according to Malakoff Coach Jamie Driskell.
"They have some big skill kids, we're probably faster than they are," he said. "They're pretty well coached."
Coach Driskell said the Panthers will look to throw the ball about 40 percent of the time.
"They're more of a ball-control spread," he said. "A lot of screens."
"Their coach will do a good job of playing to their strengths and doing what their kids can do," Coach Driskell said.
IMPORTANT: According to Malakoff ISD, all tickets for this game will only be sold online and can be purchased here.
The Tigers will be the home team for Friday night's game.
