Love in Action Hosts Successful Disc Golf Tournament
Love in Action put it in the basket Saturday.
The Henderson County Homeless Ministry's first disc golf tournament was a success, raising money for an important building project.
"God is doing amazing things," said Love in Action Executive Director Teri Caswell. "It turned out even better than what we anticipated."
On the final count, there were 74 players who participated in the event at the Cain Center, including several professional disc golfers.
Event sponsors included Rick Drummond, Life Fellowship Church, Azalea Orthopedic, Fears Attorneys at Law, Athens Daily Review, Weaver Excavating, Energy Efficient Solutions, Euphoria Salon, First State Bank, Hobbs Pest Control, and the City of Athens.
Funds raised Saturday will go toward building a 3,500 square-foot building on Love in Action property on North Maple Street in Athens. The building will include a commercial kitchen, dining area, offices, classroom, and possibly a training center.
Love in Action's mission is "to demonstrate the love of Christ to the homeless and marginalized citizens of Henderson County by caring for and assisting them at their greatest time of need."
In the past year, Love in Action has served 248 different individuals at one time or another.
