Looking for volunteers, projects for Love Athens Week
Press release
Are you ready to show you care about Athens? You will get the chance Aug. 2-6 during Love Athens Week.
That week is being set aside for volunteer projects around town.
"During that week we will go out into our community to love on our fellow citizens and neighbors by doing things for them they cannot do for themselves," said Sand Springs Church Pastor Erick Graham. "There will also be projects to beautify our city as well as our local parks."
The idea started with Sand Springs Church, but Graham quickly realized this was a chance to bring more of the community together. So he reached out to the City of Athens, which enthusiastically joined the project.
Along the way, several local organizations have gotten involved including the Henderson County Help Center, Keep Athens Beautiful, Athens EDC, Henderson County AgriLife Extension 4-H, Trinity Valley Community College, and Republic Services, Inc.
"We are grateful to Pastor Graham and Sand Springs Church for launching the Love Athens Week project," said City Manager Elizabeth Borstad. "The people are what make Athens amazing and we are excited to partner with so many organizations to help the community. Efforts like these are what make Athens a great place to live."
The plan calls for volunteers to meet at 6 pm each night at TVCC to deploy for that evening's projects.
Organizers are currently accepting applications for potential projects, as well as signing up volunteers.
Projects that assist those who need the help of their community will be considered.

Volunteers can come individually or in groups. This will be a great opportunity for organizations looking for service opportunities. Pick one night or join the fun all week.
