Lord Friday the 13th (LF13) is a dollar store glam punk band based in Austin, Texas. Fronted by siblings Felix and Sloane Lenz, LF13 formed in early 2019 and has quickly made a name for themselves on the regional scene.
Coming just in time for the election, “Bigots Beware” is an anthem for these politically charged times. This track, as well as the first four-song EP, Irrational Anthem was mixed by Brendan Benson (The Raconteurs) in Nashville, Tennessee.
The video, which was shot by Jackie Lee Young, features a dystopian Mister Rogers neighborhood in which Lord Friday is the king. Lead vocalist, Felix Lenz plays both his puppet self, as well as the host of this crazy “educational program.” A zealot bigot on the edge of revelation, the host is being guided by Felix to finally reach an understanding. The narrative is meant to be confrontational and a call to action,
urging the viewer / listener to look deeper and consider if they’re really doing all they can to change this country we live in.
The entire video was conceptualized and fabricated by Sloane and Felix, spending weeks in quarantine crafting the puppets and cardboard sets by hand.
MORE ABOUT THE BAND
In February 2020, Sloane and Felix traveled to Cavan, Ireland and spent five days recording their debut LP, Murder Music at Bedrock Studios. The album was engineered and co-produced by Pete O’Hanlon and Evan Walsh of The Strypes and The Zen Arcade.
After returning home and encountering various delays and scheduling changes due to COVID-19, including the cancellation of SXSW (which LF13 was an official showcasing artist), the band decided to hold off on releasing the record as a whole and instead break it up into smaller chunks for release during the pandemic. Murder Music is expected to be released in late 2021.
