Superintendent Dr. Janie Sims and Athens ISD were pleased to host Senator Robert Nichols on Wednesday for his biannual meeting with area superintendents. Sen. Nichols and his staff gather with public school leaders across his Senate District 3 ahead of each state legislative session to discuss issues relevant to public education. The purpose of the meeting was to prepare for the 89th State Legislature, which starts Jan. 14.
"If we don't know the issues, we can't address them," said Nichols. "We're here to listen."
Also in attendance and interactive during the exchange with administrators were State Rep. Keith Bell and State Rep. Cody Harris.
“Being in a room with all three of the legislators who represent Athens ISD is an incredible opportunity," said Dr. Sims, "especially when we were not only invited to share but felt heard.”
