
This is what a game between ranked teams is supposed to look like.
The No. 8 Waxahachie Prep Lady Warriors edged No. 5 ACPA in overtime, 44-43.
ACPA fought back from a 16-point third quarter deficit to force Waxahachie to overtime, but foul trouble caught up to the Lady Storm who only had four eligible players on the floor at the end.
The shorthanded Lady Storm were unable to stop a game-winning layup by Waxahachie's Bailey Fletcher with 14 seconds left in overtime.
It took a huge effort by ACPA to get the game to overtime. Keyed by a red hot Kaci Wallace, the Lady Storm went on a 17-2 run from the third quarter and into the fourth to work their way back into the contest.
ACPA tied the game 36-36 at 4:38 of the fourth on a bucket by Mayriah Graham and took their first lead, 38-37, with 2:09 left on a Wallace field goal.
In the end, however, the Lady Storm couldn't overcome their disadvantage at the foul line. The Lady Warriors were 14-of-32 while ACPA got to the line just five times, going 3-for-5.
ACPA was led by Wallace with 27 points, including four 3-pointers.
Graham had 8, including a pair of 3's. Zoe Koerth added 6 and Annabella Clark had 2.
Fletcher paced Waxahachie with 32 points, 12 of them from the foul line.
ACPA boys stumble against Waxahachie
The ACPA Storm fell to Waxahachie Prep, 49-33, Tuesday night.
The Storm trailed 29-20 at the half.
ACPA was led by Drew Dingler, Charlie Gaytan, and Anthony Mansfield, all with 7.
Mitchell Koerth added 5, Bryer Wood had 4, and Robert Richardson had 1.
