Hornets are Bi-District Champions
The Athens Hornets climbed out of a deep hole in the fourth quarter Monday night to beat Terrell, 61-58, in overtime to become Bi-District Champions.
Athens outscored Terrell, 19-9, in the fourth quarter with six different Hornets finding the basket.
"Winning in the playoffs is always the highlight of any season," said Coach Cliff Thompson. "To be able to fight back after a double-digit fourth quarter deficit just made it even better."
The Hornets spread the scoring out among seven players and were led by Jaden Crane with 12 points, half of which he scored in the pivotal fourth quarter. Connor Woodard added 10, Jorien Ray 11, Connor Clay 7, Jacorian Hemphill 9, Eli Rincon 6, and Derek Killingsworth 6.
"I'm proud of my kids and staff for all the hard work it took to make it happen," said Thompson. "I can't wait until Wednesday to try and do it again."
Terrell was led by Tarrance Gardner with 13 points.
Athens will face the Paris Wildcats in Area round action 7 p.m. Wednesday in Royse City. The Hornets will be the home team.
Paris advanced Monday night by beating Spring Hill, 62-50.
