As Henderson County Performing Arts Center (HCPAC) closes on an incredible 2024 and looks toward another rewarding year, the HCPAC Board extends heartfelt thanks to all its supporters, patrons, volunteers, and performers.
“Your dedication and passion have made this year truly unforgettable,” HCPAC Board President Beau Humble expressed.
HCPAC ended the season on a magical note with a sold-out run of ELF: The Musical, in partnership with Stage Notes Academy of Performing Arts. From packed houses to standing ovations, the community's support has allowed HCPAC to continue to bring the magic of live theater to Henderson County.
“We are immensely grateful for your unwavering support as we celebrate 60 years of entertainment, education, and community connection,” Board Member Shaydi Clary shared. “Here's to the next 60 years!”
60 Years of Changing Lives
HCPAC proudly marked its 60th anniversary on August 17, 2024, with the Shine Like a Diamond Gala at the Freshwater Fisheries Center in Athens. The event was a celebration of six decades of performances, memories, and community impact. Attendees enjoyed musical performances, inspiring stories, and the announcement of the exciting 2025 season.
"I came to HCPAC as a newcomer,” Board Member Pat Jousan Williams reflected on her journey with HCPAC. “I was welcomed with open arms and encouraged to build on this newfound skill of stage acting. I was entertained. I was educated. And my life was changed! This has happened over and over for 60 years with countless others, young and old alike."
HCPAC has shown remarkable resilience, never allowing its stage to go dark, even during the COVID pandemic. This legacy continues with new actors, directors, and volunteers joining the HCPAC family year after year.
During the Gala, former President Mark Roberts and former Treasurer Joann Johnson were honored for their dedication as they announced their retirement from the board. During the Gala, Johnson also delivered exciting news:
"Thanks to some wonderful donors, we are officially debt-free!" she exclaimed.
Stories of HCPAC's impact were shared throughout the evening, including how families, friendships, and even love stories were forged within its walls.
"I started at HCPAC when I was around 10 years old in the Youth Excellence on Stage (Y.E.S.) Program,” Board Member Kara Davis reminisced about growing up at HCPAC. “My parents, siblings, husband, and children have all been involved. Now I direct, teach young actors, and continue to perform."
Looking into 2025
As HCPAC looks to the new year, the board is thrilled to showcase exciting 2025 season:
Southern Hospitality
Fiddler on the Roof
SpongeBob SquarePants: The Musical (Youth Edition)
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
Dracula
A Christmas Story: The Musical
"This is a season you cannot miss,” Clary exclaimed. “Get ready for sold-out shows and unforgettable performances!"
Ghost Light Campaign
For centuries, theaters worldwide have relied on the “ghost light”—a single bulb left on in a darkened theater to ensure safety and ward off misfortune. Embracing this longstanding tradition, the Henderson County Performing Arts Center (HCPAC) is proud to launch its Ghost Light Campaign, a new fundraising initiative aimed at illuminating the center’s two stages with updated lighting systems. These much-needed upgrades will enhance performances, engage audiences, and support local talent, ensuring that HCPAC remains a vital hub for arts and culture in the community.
Through the Ghost Light Campaign, HCPAC seeks to raise the necessary funds to modernize its lighting equipment, allowing the center to continue delivering high-quality theatrical experiences. These upgrades are essential not only to elevate the visual elements of each production but also to expand the educational and artistic opportunities that HCPAC provides.
“The Ghost Light Fundraiser will be a beacon for the Henderson County Performing Arts Center, allowing us to continue bringing arts and culture to our community,” said HCPAC President Beau Humble. “Every donation supports local talent, educational programs, and the vibrant experiences that make our center a gathering place for creativity and connection in Henderson County and surrounding areas.”
HCPAC remains steadfast in its mission: We Entertain. We Educate. We Change Lives. Thank you for 60 years of support, and we can't wait to see you in 2025!
