HELP Center kicks off Child Abuse Awareness Month with concert and gala

Child Abuse Awareness Month officially begins in April, but in Henderson County, the work starts early.
The Henderson County HELP Center will mark the beginning of the month with two major community events, both focused on supporting children and families served by the HELP Center and Maggie’s House Child Advocacy Center.
The kickoff comes Saturday, March 28, with a benefit concert at The Texan in Athens featuring Seger System, a Bob Seger tribute band. Doors open at 6 p.m., with the concert starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are $50 in advance and $60 at the door.
Proceeds from the concert will benefit the HELP Center and Maggie’s House, which provide advocacy, crisis response, and support services for children impacted by abuse across Henderson County.
“When the community shows up for events like this, it sends a powerful message to children and families that they are not alone,” said Leslie Saunders, executive director of the HELP Center. “That support allows us to continue providing advocacy, education, and hope throughout the year.”
Child Abuse Awareness Month continues with the HELP Center’s annual gala, “Angels Among Us,” set for Saturday, April 11. The 1970s-themed event will include dinner, live and silent auctions, and the Angels Among Us awards. This year’s theme is “Make Child Abuse a Thing of the Past.”
For the HELP Center, April is not just about awareness. It is about education, prevention, and making sure children have a safe place to turn when they need help. Community support during this month helps fund services that are used year-round.
Having worked closely with the HELP Center over the years, I have seen how these events translate into real advocacy for kids and real support for families when it matters most.
Tickets and sponsorships for the Angels Among Us gala are available through Givebutter. For more information on either event, contact the HELP Center at 903-675-4357.
