HCPAC Offers Practical Experiences

By Shaydi Clary/HCPAC Board Member
The Henderson County Performing Arts Center is excited to announce three opportunities for community members to get hands-on experience in technical theater and the production side of theater.
The first workshop, Command the Stage, will give individuals a chance to learn the roles and responsibilities of a production team, how to have effective communication in a show, and learn the tips and tricks to become a successful director, assistant director, or stage manager. Command the Stage will take place on Saturday, March 23 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the HCPAC Main Stage. Individuals interested in participating can sign up at https://bit.ly/3HtOAzW. Individuals can pay the workshop fees of $25 on the day of the event.
The second workshop, Let’s Talk About Tech, will give individuals a hands-on experience in running and working in a tech booth. Attendees will get the chance to learn different types of light fixtures, get the opportunity to hang light fixtures, learn the different roles and responsibilities on the technical side of theater, and learn the basics of running a soundboard. Let’s Talk About Tech, will take place on Saturday, March 30 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the HCPAC Main Stage. Individuals interested in participating can sign up at https://bit.ly/3S4G1QR. Individuals can pay the workshop fees of $25 on the day of the event.
The third workshop, Get the Word Out, is the perfect opportunity for anyone who wants to learn marketing tips. Though the workshop is geared toward marketing theater productions, the workshop focuses on Marketing 101. Get the Word Out will focus on how to market a production and get the public aware of it through posters, radio, press releases, and social media. Get the Word Out is a free workshop and no registration is required. Get the Word Out will take place on Saturday, April 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
All three workshops will be led by HCPAC Board Member Shaydi Clary with some assistance from fellow HCPAC Board members.
Clary felt the need for the workshops after seeing interest in fellow cast, crew, and board members to learn the basics of the tech booth, learn the different roles in stage management, and more.
“I was being asked by fellow HCPAC members to teach them how to run the tech booth or my advice on someone wanting to direct a future production, so I thought why not create a workshop and teach everyone that is interested?” Clary said. “I think it’s a great way to get individuals that are interested in directing, stage managing or technical theater the ability to learn the basics, learn some tips and give them the strength to step into the roles they are interested in.”
The workshops will be held at 400 Gibson Road in Athens, Texas. For questions or concerns, reach out to Shaydi Clary at info@hcpac.org or shaydiparamore@gmail.com.
