GBC officer receives Life-Saving Award
Gun Barrel City Police Officer James Covey received a Life-Saving Award at Tuesday night’s City Council meeting.
The award was announced in a Facebook post by the Gun Barrel City Police Department. You can find that post here.
The post details Officer Covey’s heroics:
Officer Covey was on patrol on June 30 when he was dispatched to the Texaco at 2222 W. Main in reference to a welfare check on the clerk. The caller advised that the female employee was unconscious and unresponsive. Officer Covey was the first to arrive a the store and discovered the employee was not breathing and did not have a pulse. Officer Covey immediately placed the employee flat on the floor and began performing CPR.
Gun Barrel City Fire Department arrived along with UT Health EMS. While Officer Covey continued CPR, fire department personnel retrieved an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) and assisted in the life-saving efforts.
The employee was later transported to UT Health Gun Barrel where the subject was stabilized. The quick response and actions by Officer Covey on the scene gave this subject a viable chance at survival.
Officer Covey's action during this call for service exemplifies excellence in the service to the citizens of Gun Barrel City. He is a credit to himself, the Police Department, and the city of Gun Barrel City.
We extend our congratulations to Officer Covey!
