Crowd turns out to meet APD at Coffee with Cops event
A great crowd showed up for the Coffee with Cops event at Kevin and Jeaneane Lilly's McDonald's in Athens Wednesday morning. Athens Police Chief John Densmore along with several members of the Athens Police Department attended.
Officials who were there included County Judge Wade McKinney, Sheriff Botie Hillhouse, District Attorney Jenny Palmer, State Rep. Keith Bell, and Congressman Lance Gooden.
Chief Densmore said events like this are important for building connections between the department and the community.
"If you don't know the community you're serving, then you don't know what their needs are," he said.
Coffee with a Cop brings police officers and the community members they serve together to discuss issues and learn more about each other.
"Chief Densmore believes in being involved in the community and having his officers out and about in the community so they can do a better job," said Kevin Lilly, owner of the Athens McDonald's. "His philosophy of being involved is definitely appreciated by us."
