COVID-19 Hospitalizations At Highest Levels
The Trauma Service Area (TSA) that includes Henderson County hit its highest hospitalization percentage Monday with 20.58 percent of staffed beds filled with COVID-19 patients. There were 628 patients in the TSA. (*These numbers are for the region, not just Henderson County. See explanation below.)
Hospitalizations in the region broke the 600 patient mark for the first time Saturday, Jan 2, and hasn't come down since.
The TSA has now been at or above 15 percent COVID hospitalizations for 21 straight days. The region was designated a high hospitalizations area on Dec. 21.
According to the Texas State Department of Health an Human Services (DSHS), Henderson County saw 18 deaths due to COVID-19 in December.

*Texas separates the state into 22 regions called Trauma Service Areas, or TSAs, for hospital data. Henderson County's region is designated TSA-G and includes Tyler/Longview. TSA-G includes about 960,000 people. The 15 percent is important because it is the level that defines "high hospitalizations" in any TSA.
