Cody W. Craig, a resident of Athens, announced today that he will run for Henderson County Judge in the upcoming 2026 General Election. A dedicated community leader, Cody has been elected or appointed to multiple leadership capacities in local government and currently serves on the Athens City Council.
Born in Athens and raised in the Bethel community in northern Henderson County, Cody is a product of generations of farmers, bankers, restaurateurs, and other hard-working entrepreneurs and staples of the community. He has spent time in the funeral service industry, financial services field, consulting and advocacy sector, and currently serves as District Director for the Texas House of Representatives, District Four, in Henderson and Kaufman counties. His leadership skills have landed him in administrative positions with numerous nonprofit organizations and foundations. He is a member of the Athens Kiwanis Club, the Lone Star Republican Club, and is a Precinct Chairman for the Henderson County Republican Party.
“With the recent announcement of Judge McKinney’s retirement, I believe that Henderson County deserves the next generation of leadership to be as determined and passionate about serving our neighbors as he has been. I cannot wait to combine innovation and commitment with our county’s rich legacy as we build communities with strong businesses and growing families,” said Craig.
In his campaign, Cody will focus on key issues, specifically those addressing the impending growth in the county. With explosive development in communities to our west and east, it is imperative that we plan accordingly, stay rooted in our values, and preserve the resources we have at hand.
Cody and his wife, Rebekah, a career educator, have lived in Athens most of their married life. They have four adopted children, Anthony and wife Kelsey, Micah, Greysen, and Lainee. They are also Grumpy and Sassy to two amazing grandchildren, Charleigh and Jaxtyn. He serves to ensure his children’s and grandchildren’s generations have the same great opportunities in Henderson County as he has had.
