CORSICANA -- The TVCC Cardinals weren't bothered by the wind at Tiger Stadium in Corsicana Saturday because they brought the Thunder with with them.
The Cardinals relied on a three running back set and their Thunder personnel package to pound the Navarro Bulldogs, 47-27, behind a ferocious rushing attack that racked up nearly 300 yards on the day.
“We were able to run the football and lean on them a little bit,” said Coach Sherard Poteete. “The offensive line kind of took over and we were able to run the football on them.”
Leading the charge for the No. 7-ranked Cardinals was sophomore RB Cordrick Dunn, who had 109 yards and three touchdowns on 14 carries.
The win improves the Cardinals record to 5-1 in conference and sets up a showdown against undefeated Kilgore at Bruce Field next Saturday at 3 p.m.
From kickoff through the final gun, the relentless wind played a factor Saturday.
“We’re in West Texas it seems like. This wind is crazy,” Poteete said. “It was very hard to throw and we both had problems trying to throw into the wind.”

While the offense was transforming into a shotgun version of the ground-and-pound, the defense was playing takeaway from the Bulldogs by notching three interceptions on the afternoon.
“The defense just kept coming up big and got stops when they needed to,” Poteete said.
TVCC got picks by Jacob Berry, Ian Massey, and Marcus Davis, and the Cardinals scored on all three drives that started with a turnover.
The Cardinals fell behind 6-0 early (Bulldog TD and missed extra point), but scored 16 straight points behind Cordrick Dunn and Cam Collier rushing touchdowns and a Navarro safety.
The Cardinals never trailed again in the game.
In addition to Dunn's three TDs of 18, 1, and 2 yards, and Collier's 12-yard touchdown run, the Cardinals got a 4-yard rushing touchdown from Jordan Davis.
Tucker Yarbrough hit Korey King with a 27-yard touchdown for the Cardinals only passing score of the day.
Christopher Esqueda added a 36-yard field goal for TVCC.
Navarro's scores came on two long passes from Dodge Delozier to Quentin Lee (40) and Karl Reynolds (41), and a 67-yard fumble return by Tyrecus Davis. The Bulldogs also scored on an 8-yard run by Elijah Hines.
