Cardinals Claim Second Straight Conference Softball Title

There is something to this Home of Champions thing.

The Cardinal softball team got in on the act this weekend, winning a second straight Region XIV Conference championship.

The Cardinals (48-10) set up the championship Friday with a 9-1 and 10-2 sweep of Bossier Parish at Drumgoole Field at Cain Park. They then waited for a little help on Sunday, which came in the form of a 4-2 Navarro win against Paris, giving them the outright title.

Next up for fourth-year head coach Maria Winn-Ratliff’s squad is the regional tournament at Bossier Parish Community College in Bossier City, LA. The tournament is schedule May 3-6. The top two teams advance to the national tournament May 19-24 in Yuma, AZ.

The Cardinals, who won the conference title with a 20-4 mark, are scheduled to play Alvin (24-28) at 5 p.m. Saturday.
