Biomerics announces pay increases for employees
Biomerics FMI President Todd McFarland announced pay raises and more for Athens employees Monday.
Biomerics is one of the largest employers in Athens.
McFarland made the announcement in talks at both Biomerics locations in Athens.
"We realize we have fallen behind the governing wage rate in Athens and we're going to fix that today," he told both crowds.
Changes include converting bonus payments into base salary and other wage increases. The increases total about $4.2 million for the company, McFarland said.
"Which means, effective Monday, January 10th, the starting wage -- I mean the minimum wage for anybody who works here -- will not be $10 an hour, it will be $13.50," he said.
McFarland said all hourly employees will get a raise with two-thirds of the raises being more than $3 an hour.
"Most of the raises are really substantial," he said. "I think all of them are meaningful."
The announcement was met with cheers.
In addition, McFarland told the employees that Biomerics has worked out an agreement with the City of Athens for all employees and their families to have access to the Cain Center for free.
