Athens and GBC Christmas parades this Saturday
It's time for the Christmas parades!
The cities of Athens and Gun Barrel City will both hold their annual Christmas parades this Saturday, Dec. 4. I hope you have a great time whichever one you attend. Merry Christmas!
ATHENS PARADE
The Athens Christmas Parade is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4.
Henderson County Judge Wade McKinney will be the parade's Grand Marshal.
The 2021 Christmas parade is organized by the City of Athens and its parade partner, the Athens Chamber of Commerce. Sponsors include Athens Screen Printing, Atmos Energy, Kevin and Jeaneane Lilly’s McDonalds, and Republic Services. The theme of the 2021 Athens Christmas Parade is “Candy Land.”
"The Athens Chamber is elated to be part of this fantastical, annual event that is sure to make the holidays that much sweeter for everyone in our community!” said Kristin Willingham, Executive Director of the Athens Chamber of Commerce. “We love the theme Candyland, chosen by the community, and can't wait to see everyone's spin on their delectable expressions!”
The parade will travel the traditional route, starting in the Trinity Valley Community College parking lot, going north on Palestine Street to the square, west on Tyler Street, and then south on Prairieville Street back to the college.
“We are excited about an evening of whimsy, fun, and imagination,” said Katie Birk, Tourism and Cultural Resources Coordinator. “Don’t forget a candy bag, there is a lot of sweet, take-home treats in Candy Land!”
GUN BARREL CITY PARADE
Gun Barrel City will host its annual Christmas parade 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4.
The theme of this year's parade is a "Pixar Christmas."
Grand Marshals for the parade are Forky and Buzz Lightyear.
Law enforcement will be shutting down east and west-bound traffic on Main Street between Municipal Drive and Pleasureland Drive at approximately 5:45 p.m. for the parade. No traffic will be allowed on the roadway until the parade has concluded.
There will be a fireworks show in Gun Barrel City Park after the parade. After the fireworks, Buzz and Forky will be reading "Merry Christmas Woody" and passing out books to children at the Fire Department.
The posts are free thanks to our sponsors: Athens Screen Printing, Tinsley Law & Title, and Gibson Pharmacy, R&R Lawn Specialist, Majestic Recovery & Towing, and Gilbert Electric.
