Athens ISD is proud to announce Bernitha “Nikki” Enoch as Elementary Teacher of the Year and Edward Medvecky as Secondary Teacher of the Year. Each year, Athens ISD selects two educators, one from the elementary level and one from the secondary level, who exemplify the district’s core values. Both were chosen from among a field of exceptional faculty members across the district.
“Naming just two recipients from among so many deserving educators is always a joyful challenge,” said AISD Superintendent Dr. Janie Sims. “Ms. Enoch and Mr. Medvecky represent the very best of what it means to serve the students of Athens ISD.”
Ms. Enoch, a PreK-4 teacher at Central Athens Elementary, is known for the positive energy and nurturing environment she creates in her classroom. Her ability to connect with young learners and foster curiosity has made a lasting impression on her campus.
“Ms. Enoch’s vibrant spirit and dedication not only ignite a love of learning in her pre-K students, but also inspire her colleagues,” said Principal Claudia Godwin. “She has a unique ability to create a nurturing and joyful classroom environment. Ms. Enoch has truly made a lasting impact on the lives of her students and our school.”
Medvecky teaches Honors English I & II at Athens High School and serves as the campus yearbook advisor. Known for his engaging classroom discussions and mentorship, he plays a key role in shaping the academic and personal growth of his students.
“Mr. Medvecky’s presence on our team has been a joy,” said Principal Jason Iglehart. “His support of fellow teachers, assistance in launching our Student Advisory Committee, and his engaging Socratic classroom seminars have made such a positive impact at Athens High School.”
AISD celebrates both educators for their excellence in teaching and their heartfelt commitment to students and fellow educators.
